Markus
Miessen (1978) is an architect, researcher and writer. He studied
architecture at Glasgow School of Art and the Architectural Association
from which he graduated with Honours in 2004. After having supported
General Public Agency, he now acts as a spatial advisor to the
European Kunsthalle. In 2002, he set up Studio Miessen, a platform
for spatial strategy and cultural analysis. Most recently, he
has been an Editorial Consultant at Volume magazine, Editor of
Build magazine, author of Spaces of Uncertainty (with Cupers,
2002) and is initiating a large-scale research project with the
Serpentine Gallery London. After having received an M.Res degree
from the London Consortium, he is currently a Ph.D. candidate
at the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths and teaches
at the Architectural Association.
Shumon Basar (1974) is a writer,
editor, curator and educator. He studied architecture at Cambridge
University (1993–6) and the Architectural Association (1998–2000).
Having worked for Zaha Hadid (1996–9), he co-founded the
cross-disciplinary publishing event, Sexymachinery; and the curatorial/design
collective Newbetter. He is an editor at Tank magazine, and writes
for Art Review, Domus, Blueprint, Modern Painters and Log. He
teaches at the Architectural Association and the Royal College
of Art, and is a Ph.D. candidate at the recently established
Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths.
